General Questions about CallWave

How does the CallWave Internet Answering Machine work?
If your phone line is busy, all incoming telephone calls are forwarded to a toll free number. If you are online at the time the caller is told this, a message is taken and delivered to you over the Internet so that you can hear it online. If you are talking on the phone, then the caller hears a busy signal.

Where is the CallWave service available?
Currently, the CallWave Internet Answering Machine service is only available in the United States.

What do I get during my free 30-day trial?
You can try any, or all, of the four CallWave plans without any charge from CallWave. CallWave will send you a reminder email before your free trial ends.

Does CallWave Come with any extra features?
Yes CallWave comes with several extras that make the service very attractive. Depending on the service level you select, you can get a Fax number, a toll-free home number, a CallWave phone number, and telemarketer blocking. All of the extras come at no additional cost. Click here to learn more.

Setting up CallWave

How do I install CallWave on my computer?
Setting up an Internet Answering Machine on your computer is very easy. Click here to start your free trial of CallWave. You will download a small file to your computer. Click on the file and your software is installed. Complete, easy-to-follow installation instructions are provided.

Do I need to add any features to my current telephone service?
Yes, you will need to make a small change. You will need to add "call forwarding on busy" at a cost of about $1.50 per month. This forwards your incoming calls to the toll free number discussed in the previous FAQ when your line is busy. Setting this up is easy. CallWave will set this up for you when you download the software if your telephone company is listed on their site, which most of them are. In rare cases you will need to call your phone company or visit their web site to set up the feature.

What operating systems does CallWave work with?
It works with Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows ME, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 98, and Windows 95. It does not work on the MAC.

Does CallWave work with AOL?
Yes, CallWave works with all of the major Internet Service Providers (ISP's) including AOL, Blue Light, CompuServe, EarthLink, Juno, MindSpring, MSN, NetZero, PeoplePC, Prodigy, and any ISP that is local to your area. If you live in the United States and are currently using a Computer with Microsoft Windows installed, then CallWave should work for you.

Can I use CallWave with a Cable Modem or DSL?
Yes, CallWave works with either a Cable Modem or DSL. Using CallWave with a Cable Modem or DSL makes your Internet act like a second phone line. When talking on the phone, any calls that come in are routed through your "always-on" Internet connection to your PC.

Additional Questions

What is Internet Call Waiting?
Internet Call Waiting is just another way of referring to a Internet Answering Machine.

Does anyone else provide a similar Internet Answering Service?
Yes, Internet Call Manager has a service that is similar to CallWave.
Some local telephone companies also provide an Internet Answering Service. The ones that I have seen are actually using one of the services listed here with their brand on it.

Are there any other ways to keep from missing phone calls while on line?
Yes there are. You can install a second phone line if you want. Most people find that solution too expensive.
You can get your Internet service from your cable company (Cable modem). Also available from many telephone companies is DSL service that works on one telephone line and provides you both a telephone and Internet service that can be used simultaneously.
An inexpensive solution that will work for a select few is to use your cellular phone to receive calls when you are on line. The cost of this should only be for the call forwarding on busy from your phone company. The downside of this is that you must have your cell phone available when you are online, must be in an area where it works well, and must have adequate time in your plan.
